Position Overview:
We are looking for a skilled Senior Accountant (excluded position) to join our finance team at Merritt, BC. The ideal candidate will support our financial operations and assist the Finance team and VP of Finance in monitoring the company's financial performance. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can manage multiple priorities effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in monitoring the company’s financial performance and preparing financial forecasts.
- Assists VP Finance in preparing financial reports for the management team.
- Collaborate with all financial and payroll employees to ensure efficient operations.
- Conduct financial analysis, including variance analysis, profitability analysis, and cost analysis to support strategic decision-making and identify areas for improvement
- Coordinate the year-end preparation of financial statements and working papers for the annual audit.
- Ensure adherence to internal financial controls and monitor accuracy.
- Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes, enhance internal controls, and optimize efficiency.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy, proper documentation, and compliance with internal controls.
- Manage the work approval system under the direction of the VP of Finance.
- Oversee the month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Research technical accounting issues to ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations.
- Preparing and maintaining the company's budget, ensuring it aligns with financial goals and forecasts
- Comparing actual financial results to the budgeted amounts to spot any deviations and communicate to management.
Qualifications:
- University degree in Business/Accounting. CPA designation preferred
- Experience with a timely and accurate delivery of financial statements monthly, preparing account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Willingness to undertake account reconciliations, variance analysis, and other accounting duties as required.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office including Excel and Word.
- 2-3 years of experience in a full-cycle accounting role.
- Proficient at problem solving and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with Eclipse accounting software is considered an asset
