What- the Role:

On client is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their tightknit team of 10 in accounting & finance. This is a newly created role due to company growth and increasing business needs. The Senior Accountant will report directly into the CFO and will have a well-rounded portfolio which will include taking ownership for the evolving internal controls, internal audit, and risk management needs of the company (potentially building up to the creation of a true internal audit department and function within the organization). It is anticipated than this piece would represent 30% to 50% of the role (fluctuating depending on projects and time of year).
Additionally, the Senior Accountant will support financial reporting, month-end/year-end close, ad hoc accounting & finance related projects, financial analysis and business decision support, system optimization, acquisition integrations, etc. This company’s accounting team is very collaborative, and they help each other out as needed. The Senior Accountant will be using a cloud-based accounting system and plenty of Excel.

Who- the Candidate:

We are looking for an Accountant with at least 4 years of full-cycle accounting work experience. CPA designation highly preferred, but candidates who have successfully passed the CFE and will be designated soon will also be considered. Solid skills within internal controls and internal audit for a publicly-listed Canadian company is required. This is the first time the company is hiring someone who will be accountable to the internal controls and internal audit function, and they are looking for someone who can bring in best practices and identify areas of opportunity and risk for the organization. Training in public practice followed by 1+ year in industry is preferred, although candidates who have experience only in public practice or only in industry will also be considered. Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, V look-ups, etc.) is required. Candidates will have a friendly, clear, and professional communication style.

Bonus Points….

  • Experience working for a company with a franchise business model

  • Experience optimizing the internal use of a mid-size cloud-based accounting system

  • Exposure to post-acquisition integration, including implementing new internal controls for a newly acquired subsidiary


How Much:

Competitive base salary commensurate with level of skills, experience, and accounting qualifications, likely in the range of $87,000 to $100,000. The company will provide their new Senior Accountant with a solid overall compensation package, including paid vacation and sick days, professional development support for CPA, and good health & dental benefits.

Where:

HYBRID. Our client is headquartered in the Tri-Cities area of Greater Vancouver, and this is a great commute for someone living in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Pitt Meadows, Surrey, Burnaby, etc. Located right off the highway.. The Senior Accountant will work 3+ days/week in the office during initial training, and long-term likely 2 days/week in office (or employees can choose to work from the office full-time, if preferred).
