$33.63 to $34.99 per hour. Salary is based on education and experience.
The Opportunity
The Self-Employment Program ( SEP ) Business Advisor will work closely with WorkBC Case Managers to recruit and select SEP candidates as well as deliver training, maintain a client case-load, and conduct follow-up and business coaching for all participants.

You bring exceptional client service skills, proven coaching abilities, self-employment expertise along with the ability to pay attention to detail, establish priorities, work to deadlines, and maintain well documented records.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

    • Deliver program information sessions for WorkBC clients and Career Coaches;
    • Deliver Orientation Sessions, follow-up interviews and assess businesses for eligibility to the program;
    • Provide input on business concept development to determine program acceptance;
    • Facilitate Business Plan Development workshops and on-going coaching and mentoring;
    • Assess viability of Business Plans and provide constructive feedback one-on-one to participants;
    • Coordinate delivery of formal participant training, including recruitment of guest speakers, logistical requirements, continuity between participant requirements and formal training;
    • Conduct on-going coaching sessions during Business Launch;
    • Maintain records of participant progress in Ministry Database ( ICM );
    • Support participants to forge links with community resources and with one another;
    • Participate in team meetings;
    • Support Self Employment team and ensure targets and deliverables are met;
    • Participate in round-table discussions;
    • Provide publicity, information sessions and marketing services for our catchment;
    • Perform additional duties as assigned.

WHAT IT TAKES
TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED :

    • A Bachelor's degree in a business-related discipline or equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
    • Current or previous self-employment experience;
    • Creativity and passion for working with clients to secure sustainable self-employment opportunities;
    • Knowledge and familiarity with developing and editing business plans;
    • Previous training and experience organizing and facilitating business-related workshops;
    • Previous experience in an advising/consulting capacity;
    • Experience facilitating online webinars and meetings;
    • Working knowledge of current business technologies;
    • Resourcefulness and creative problem-solving techniques;
    • To be a self-starter who has successfully demonstrated an ability to achieve established goals;
    • To understand and utilize time management principles;
    • Strong service orientation with proven ability to develop rapport with participants, listen and respond to participant's concerns;
    • Reliable vehicle for travel;
    • Excellent computer skills: MS Office Suite, Database entry, Virtual Meeting platforms (MS Teams, Zoom), social media and the ability to research information via the Internet. Web management skills are an asset;
    • Knowledge of the New Employment Program of BC and its mandate; and
    • Satisfactory completion of a criminal records check. A criminal record will not automatically result in your application for employment being denied.
Additional Information
This is a full-time term position (40 hours per week) based at the Coquitlam Campus and will be required to travel occasionally within the lower mainland, Vancouver Island and once a week to our WorkBC Maple Ridge and Langley offices. Shifts are typically Mondays-Fridays from 9:00am-5:00pm, but may include occasional evenings and Saturdays.
