Job Summary

The Team
The High Intensity Outreach Team (HIOT) is a dedicated group within our larger community mental health team, providing crucial short-term stabilization for children and youth facing severe mental health or substance use challenges. This team, comprising two clinicians and one Mental Health Outreach Worker, has been instrumental in connecting families to the right community supports for the past two years. As part of HIOT, you'll collaborate closely with other mental health clinicians, psychiatry, and psychiatric nurses, while also engaging with a variety of community partners. We value the team's ability to be flexible, creative, and leverage diverse skills to make a real impact in mitigating long-term difficulties for those we serve.

The Role
As a High Intensity/Outreach Clinician, you will play a key role in supporting the development and implementation of regional services aligned with the Pathway to Hope provincial strategy. You will provide community-based mental health care to reduce hospitalizations and ensure smooth transitions back home for children and youth. By working closely with families and caregivers, you'll help implement treatment plans and provide day-to-day support for those experiencing acute mental health or substance use challenges. Your work will have a direct impact on the lives of children and youth, offering intensive services such as risk assessments, safety planning, crisis intervention, and stabilization care.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

• Masters in Counselling, Social Work, Educational Counselling, Clinical Counselling, Clinical Psychology or Child and Youth Care or comparable graduate degree at the Master's level in a similar subject may be considered
  • NOTE:If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
• Minimum of one (1) year full-time experience in a treatment role working with children and youth with mental health and/or substance use challenges.
• Must possess and maintain a valid B.C. Class 5 driver's license (note - if you currently have valid driver's license in Canada, and if you are the successful applicant, you must acquire a valid B.C. driver's Class 5 driver's license immediately).

Preference may be given to applicant with the following:

• Two (2) or more years of experience in a treatment role working with children and youth with mental health and/or substance use challenges.
• Experience using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) with children and/or youth.
• Experience treating children and youth with suicidal risk.
• Experience with family based treatment.
• Experience with trauma-informed practice.
• Experience providing services utilizing an outreach model.
• Experience providing services utilizing a strength-based case management model and multi-disciplinary wrap around services.
• Experience liaising with or working in hospital settings.
• Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.
