Reporting to the Associate Director, Student Services, the Manager, Student Services delivers on the goal to provide an enriched student experience on campus for domestic and international students. The Manager ensures that programs and services offered to students promote student success and engagement. The Manager is responsible for the day-to-day activities and supervision of assigned staff teams (e.g., student life, accessibility services, student services and/or student wellness) and will manage (lead, organize, and administer) programs and support services that complement students' academic and career objectives at Douglas College. The Manager will also initiate new programs, establish implementation strategies, identify goals and deliverables and manage other aspects of the department as assigned by the Associate Director.

WHAT IT TAKES
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES :

Under the general direction of the Associate Director, Student Services, the Manager, Student Services is accountable for the following:


    •Plan, develop, implement, and review activities, programs, co-curricular courses, events, and services that support a dynamic and supportive campus environment that promotes learning, academic success, accessibility, social inclusion, and leadership development of students at Douglas College.
    •Provide leadership and guidance in the delivery of activities and services to enhance the student experience of Douglas College students.
    •Collaborate with all areas within Student Affairs and Services to develop and deliver holistic wellness initiatives across the College (including physical, mental and sexual health).
    •Collaborate with faculties, departments and divisions across the College, to identify student needs, enhance existing programs and services, and develop new initiatives that meet students' wellness, accessibility and engagement needs.
    •Work collaboratively with the SAS leadership team, Marketing and Communications and other student services (e.g., Douglas International) to ensure that Student Affairs & Services activities are communicated effectively to students through various channels including on-campus messaging and social media.
    •Ensure the college's risks are minimized and managed through established mitigation strategies for student activities and events.
    •Promote and develop partnerships and relationships with internal and external groups, including but not limited to the Douglas Students' Union, Departments of Recreation of the Cities of New Westminster and Coquitlam. Partner with universities/colleges and community organizations that enhance service learning, volunteerism, networking and community partnerships.
    •Plan and coordinate joint student activities with the other college stakeholders and the Douglas College Students' Union.
    •Support the educational mission of the College and give strategic student experience and student development guidance to colleagues (faculties, departments, offices, etc.) throughout the College.
    •Provide ongoing direction to department employees, student assistants and contract employees in relation to College priorities and projects.
    •Lead and manage teams in one or more functional areas within Student Affairs and Services. This includes day-to-day supervision, team building, scheduling work, goal setting, recruitment and selection, mentorship, training, professional development, performance planning, evaluating and disciplining where appropriate.
    •Lead the day-to-day operations of the staff team by applying consistent practice, optimizing workflow, and developing the team.
    •Plan, develop, and monitor program budget and expenses. Approve expenditures, timesheets, invoices, and service agreements for cost code under direct responsibility. Assume direct responsibility and signing authority and approve expenditures for several cost codes.
    •Participate as a member of the SAS leadership team to prepare, develop, implement and evaluate of the Department's strategic and operational plans.
    •Chair or participate on assigned committees as required.
    •Actively models the Douglas College Core Competencies.
    •Act on behalf of the Associate Director in their absence, as requested.
    •Perform other related duties as required.

EDUCATION , EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS :

    •Post-graduate diploma or graduate degree in student affairs/student services or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
    •A minimum of three years demonstrated leadership and relevant management and supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized post-secondary educational institution.
    •A minimum of three years' experience leading student services, programs and/or activities.
    •Experience with program development, including project management and program assessment.
    •Demonstrated ability to model appropriate professional, ethical and collaborative behaviours that engender collaboration, trust and respect consistent with the responsibilities of this position.
    •Knowledge of the teaching and learning environment at a post-secondary level, or an equivalent combination of formal and informal teaching and administrative experience.
    •Experience responding to diverse student needs, including those of international students, Indigenous students, students with disabilities, and students who identify as LGBTQIA+.
    •Demonstrated commitment to Indigenization, equity, diversity and inclusion.
    •Demonstrated understanding of the importance of truth and reconciliation, decolonization and Indigenization within the post-secondary context.
    •Ability to establish priorities, organize, schedule and solve problems and tasks.
    •Ability to think critically, be decisive, and work collaboratively.
    •Excellent written, presentation and oral communication skills.
    •Excellent interpersonal and consensus-building skills.
    •Demonstrated abilities that align with the Douglas College Core Competency Framework.
Additional Information
Regular hours of work are 8:30 am -4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. Occasional travel between Douglas College's locations as required.
