Job Description

Duties:

Teach one or more sections of

FALL 2025:

  • MATH 121 - Calculus I [two sections, 4 workload hours each]
  • MATH 131 - Mathematics for Elementary Education I [two sections, 4 workload hours each]. One of these sections is online asynchronous with two of the four weekly workload hours allocated to synchronous delivery.

SPRING 2026:

  • MATH 121 - Calculus I [one section, 4 workload hours]
  • MATH 122 - Calculus II [one section, 4 workload hours]
  • MATH 132 - Mathematics for Elementary Education II [one section, 4 workload hours]

14.5 or greater workload hours per week in a semester is considered full-time.

Duties include preparation of lectures, assignments, tests, grading of submitted work, and holding regular office hours. Courses are four lecture hours per week scheduled for face-to-face classroom delivery at the Nanaimo campus, with the exception of the one online section of MATH 131 noted above.

Candidates are asked to list in their application letter which of the courses they are interested in teaching.

Additional first-year MATH courses may become available depending on later May registration numbers, and the successful candidate may be offered additional work.

Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

Required Qualifications:

  • A MSc in mathematics or statistics from an appropriately accredited institution.
  • Teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (D2L, Moodle, etc).
  • Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and commitment to a team-based working culture.
  • A commitment to, and understanding of, the importance of equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom and workplace.
