Job Description

Organizational Profile

Stewardship Centre for British Columbia (SCBC) was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2006 after over a decade of producing technical resources. SCBC is a recognized innovative leader in the field of nature-based coastal solutions and has a strong legacy of projects with established technical advisory committees that are nationally significant in the Canadian landscape.

Since its inception, SCBC has developed tools, workshops, courses and programs on ecosystems, habitats, and species at risk to help sustain our natural landscapes and watersheds and educate the public on stewardship practices. These tools, including training and planning resources, are designed for landowners, land use professionals, the development community, local governments, and conservation organizations.

About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a technical leader to have a direct impact on nationally significant, nature-based coastal solutions in a collaborative environment with an established network of highly motivated professionals. Reporting to the SCBC Board of Directors and the SCBC Conservation and Stewardship Practices Committee, the Executive Director strives to achieve SCBC's strategic goals, including building knowledge, understanding, and action for healthy ecosystems in BC; engaging British Columbians in stewardship; building the capacity of stewardship organizations; and strengthening the capacity of SCBC. The Executive Director leads SCBC contractors on projects that focus on establishing effective land use management and practices that protect ecosystems and encourage ecosystem resilience.

This is an incredible opportunity for a strategic, collaborative, and technical leader with significant experience in the principles of shoreline restoration or ecosystem management. The successful candidate will have a strong science-based approach and technical expertise with a deep understanding of the application of Green Shores principles. The preferred candidate will have a minimum of ten (10) years of applicable experience with progressive leadership roles in the realm of shoreline restoration and will hold a Master’s degree (in conservation, natural resources, shoreline, or ecosystem management) with demonstrated leadership and sector acumen, grant writing and fundraising experience. This position requires excellent interpersonal and planning skills with the ability to organize, moderate and facilitate strategic discussions, training, and collaborative opportunities across cultures, disciplines, and belief systems.

The salary for this position is $105,000 per year for 32 hours per week on a contract basis. This position is a flexible role with the advantage of remote, work-from-home with occasional travel within British Columbia and Canada (Maritimes). Lower Mainland is preferred.
