About the Opportunity

TKDN has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Director of Education role, based in Prince George, BC.

Reporting to the Executive Director, you will play a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and managing education programs for the Tsay Keh Dene School and Learning Centre.

In this position, you will work closely with the Principal and be primarily responsible for ensuring that all educational services are delivered meaningfully and appropriately while maintaining the quality of education to specified standards.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Establishing special programs and supervising their successful implementation
  • Developing and ensuring the School Action Plan aligns with instructional and program priorities
  • Overseeing and directing the implementation of all new educational programs
  • Managing resourcing through recruitment, placement, supervision, and professional development of staff
  • Developing budgets and managing financial expenditures for the department
  • Acting as a community relations liaison
  • Providing leadership in professional development and student services
  • Monitoring student progress through standardized testing principles and procedures

More About You

To qualify, you will need a relevant graduate degree and 3–5+ years of varied related experiences. A minimum of 3 years of experience in educational program management and an understanding of K-12 curricula and needs will also be essential. A combination of education and experience will be considered.

The following are also required:

  • Ability to undergo a criminal record check 
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License & acceptable driver’s abstract 
  • Willingness and ability to work in the field and travel in-community per organization needs (~once a month)

The following skills and experience will be strong assets:

  • Labour relations experience with contracts and labour issues
  • Experience working effectively with committees, teams, personnel, parents, students, and community members
  • Knowledge of education laws and regulations, agreements, and policies
  • Skill in presenting information and responding to questions from staff and the public
  • Familiarity with FNESC and FNSA
  • Experience in proposals, budgeting, financial management, and college-level training
  • Experience delivering adult education programs, including industry tickets, first aid, confined spaces, and driver's training, collaborating with local colleges
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications and ability to adapt to and learn new software
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities
  • Comprehensive knowledge or interest in the history of Tsay Keh Dene Nation
