The Tŝilhqot’in National Government (TNG) is the official First Nations government serving the Tŝilhqot'in Nation. TNG is located in Williams Lake, British Columbia and serves six communities, including ʔEsdilagh, Tŝideldel, Yuneŝit'in, Tl'etinqox, Xeni Gwet'in, and Tl'esqox.
The Entrepreneurship Coordinator/Trainer will work for a duration of approximately 16 months to support entrepreneurs by providing entrepreneurship training, business development assistance and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate entrepreneurship and small business development with a focus on two streams: one for new entrepreneurs and one for existing entrepreneurs looking to grow their businesses
- Develop and/or coordinate the delivery of new and existing entrepreneur and business training workshops and programs individually or in conjunction with other partners or affiliates
- Develop/deliver/coordinate youth entrepreneur initiatives in community
- Coordinate a regional business pitch competition
- Develop resource manual of business supports available to aspiring entrepreneurs
- Presentations to Tsilhqot'in National Government communities on entrepreneur opportunities
- Build relationships with industry, economic development organizations, funding agencies, financial institution and investors
- Mentoring entrepreneurs, including ability to work one-on-one with entrepreneurs over an extended period of time
- Working with all age groups from youth to Elders
- Prepare updates and reports as requested
- Conduct research and consult with key collaborators and community members
- Develop grant funding applications for additional program services
- Provide input into the evaluation of the program
- Other duties as required
Requirements:
- Experience owning a business or working for a business development organization
- Knowledge of the process of starting a business in BC
- Strong facilitation skills
- Experience working with Indigenous youth
- Willingness to learn about Tsilhqot’in Nation and communities affiliated with TNG
- Valid BC Driver’s License and access to reliable insured transportation
- Ability and willingness to travel to remote communities in the region as required
- Strong computer skills
- Strong communication skills
- Organizational, conflict resolution and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Recognizes and respects cultural diversity and understands Tsilhqot'in culture
- Ability to speak fluent Tsilhqot’in language will be considered an asset
Working Conditions:
- Travel will be required
- Ability to attend and conduct presentations
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and additional hardware
- Overtime as required
- Lifting or moving up to 25lbs may be required
