About the OpportunityWuikinuxv Nation is looking for a full-time Elementary School Teacher to start as soon as possible, or in September 2025. Please note that we are a remote community in the Central Coast region of B.C., accessible by boat or plane from Port Hardy.
As an Elementary School Teacher, you will play a vital role in fostering the academic and personal development of our young learners. Teaching in a K to 12 school, you will work in a small, multi-grade classroom from K4 to Grade 7, with the support of an Educational Assistant. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact within our community, creating an inclusive and engaging environment that supports student success.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Creating and implementing lesson plans that align with the school curriculum and educational standards
- Teaching various subjects such as English, Math, Science, and Social Studies to elementary school students
- Utilizing a variety of teaching methods and resources to engage students in the learning process
- Assessing student progress and providing feedback to students, parents, and school administrators
- Maintaining a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes learning and respect
- Collaborating with other teachers and staff to develop and implement school-wide initiatives
- Managing classroom behavior to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment
- Providing individualized instruction to students with special education needs or language barriers
To qualify, you will need to be a certified teacher within any province, along with 5+ years of experience working with children in an educational setting. Special Education experience and experience working with First Nations students are essential for success in this role.
Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
- Proficiency in using computerized educational tools and resources
- Strong organizational and time management skills to plan lessons and track student progress effectively
- Excellent communication skills for engaging with students, parents, and colleagues
- Experience working with diverse student populations, including those with special education needs or language barriers
- Bilingual proficiency is an asset
