The Ulkatcho First Nation is one of four communities making up the Dakelh or Southern Carrier tribal nation in central British Columbia. The Ulkatcho community and offices are located in scenic Anahim Lake, with access to an unparalleled natural beauty.
The Ulkatcho government is responsible for 22 reserves with a population of 729 members living on-reserve, and another 200 living off reserve.

About the OpportunityUlkatcho First Nation has an exciting opportunity for a permanent full-time Finance Director to join our team in Anahim Lake, B.C, with the option for a hybrid work arrangement requiring at least one week per month on-site.
Reporting to Chief and Council, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial operations of Ulkatcho First Nation. You will manage a $15 million budget, ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and provide strategic financial leadership to support the Nation's long-term success.
In this position, you will be primarily responsible for developing and maintaining financial policies, procedures, internal controls, and reporting systems to align with the organization’s strategic objectives. This includes leading the development of a 5-year fiscal plan in alignment with the Strategic Plan to drive financial sustainability.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Supervising all accounting functions and financial reporting to ensure compliance with Canadian GAAP and PSAB
- Developing and managing budgets and expense controls to align with strategic objectives
- Providing financial reports and evaluations for organizational projects, including monthly reports to Chief and Council
- Collaborating with departmental leaders to ensure financial alignment and compliance
- Leading the finance team in accounting, reporting, and budget management
- Maintaining relationships with funding agencies and ensuring program compliance
- Supporting external audit preparations and ensuring reporting deadlines are met

About YouTo qualify, you will need a CPA (Canadian) designation, preferably in conjunction with a CAFM designation, and 5+ years of financial management experience in a First Nation or Not-For-Profit organization. A combination of education and proven experience may be considered.
The following are also required:
- Ability to undergo a criminal record & vulnerable sector checks
- Possess a valid Driver’s License & access to a reliable vehicle
- Willingness and ability to travel per organization needs
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
- Expert knowledge of Canadian GAAP and PSAB standards
- Proficiency in financial software, including Sage 300, and advanced Excel skills
- Experience managing accounting systems, budgets, internal controls, and business planning
- Direct experience working with funding agencies such as ISC, FNHA, and the Province of BC
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and relationship management abilities
- Understanding of financial policies and compliance within a First Nations context
- Understanding of Dakelh culture, traditions, and First Nations customs
- Ability to speak the Dakelh language (asset)
