The Ulkatcho First Nation is one of four communities making up the Dakelh or Southern Carrier tribal nation in central British Columbia. The Ulkatcho community and offices are located in scenic Anahim Lake, with access to an unparalleled natural beauty at the western edge of the Chilcotin District.
The Ulkatcho government is responsible for 22 reserves with a population of 729 members living on-reserve, and another 200 living off reserve. Our expansive traditional territory includes the waters flowing west on the Chilcotin Plateau and includes Tweedsmuir Park.

About the OpportunityUlkatcho First Nation has an exciting opportunity for a permanent full-time Director of Child, Family & Social Development to join our team in Anahim Lake, B.C.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing child, family, and social development programs while managing the community’s income assistance initiatives to support overall well-being.
In this position, you will be primarily responsible for developing, managing, and implementing child and family social services, income assistance programs, and community wellness initiatives in alignment with community and governmental policies.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Managing the Ulkatcho First Nation Child, Family, and Social Development program, including budgeting and reporting
- Overseeing the ISC Social Assistance program to meet basic living needs while adhering to regional policy guidelines
- Assisting members with applications for benefits such as disability support, old age security, and child tax benefits
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to develop training and community service programs
- Promoting child safety and health through partnerships with families, external agencies, and service organizations
- Coordinating counseling, crisis intervention, and case management services with relevant agencies
- Planning and implementing community service programs addressing family violence and other social concerns
- Building relationships with government agencies and service organizations to advocate for community needs and support program development
- Monitoring and evaluating program outcomes to ensure alignment with community goals and funding requirements
- Participating in committees to contribute to the development of comprehensive community plans and health and wellness strategies

About YouTo qualify, you will need a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a related field, with 5+ years of experience working with multi-barrier, at-risk, and/or First Nations populations in a leadership capacity.
The following are also required:
- Ability to undergo a criminal record & vulnerable sector checks
- Possess a valid Driver’s License & access to a reliable vehicle
- Willingness and ability to travel per organization needs
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
- Knowledge of provincial legislation, agency policies, and practice standards
- Familiarity with health and social services policies and programs, particularly those relevant to social development
- Proven leadership skills and experience in budget development and management
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship management skills
- Proficiency in computer applications, including Excel, Word, and presentation software
- Understanding of Dakelh culture, traditions, and First Nations customs
- Ability to work independently and effectively with diverse teams using integrated case management techniques
- Experience in strategic planning, goal setting, and staff accountability
- Ability to speak the Dakelh language (asset)
- A relevant Master’s degree (asset)
