Communications Coordinator

Classification:      Full time, Permanent

Salary:                   $48,000 - $64,000

Location:               Dasiqox Office, Williams Lake, BC

The Tŝilhqot’in National Government (TNG) is the official First Nations government serving the Tŝilhqot'in Nation. TNG is located in Williams Lake, BC and serves the six communities: ʔEsdilagh, Tŝideldel, Yuneŝit'in, Tl'etinqox, Xeni Gwet'in, and Tl'esqox.

 

The Communications Coordinator researches, develops, writes, and edits in support of TNG’s communications initiatives, including digital and print materials, intranet and internet updates, presentations, and newsletters. They coordinate with departments to strengthen internal communication, increase employee awareness, and facilitate staff engagement.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an innovative internal communications and engagement plan
  • Create an adaptive feedback process to evaluate the impact of staff communication and engagement strategies and make improvements or research innovative solutions
  • Develop and manage the staff intranet, including the structure, design, and content
  • Oversee the planning and organization of the staff Lunch & Learn series
  • Create and distribute engaging content, including digital and print materials, announcements, newsletters, social posts, and presentations
  • Prepare, write, and edit for a variety of audiences, such as staff, children, community members, and the general public(s)
  • Assist the communications team with event promotion (i.e. posters, social media, etc.) and documentation (i.e. photo-taking, video-recording, notes, etc.)
  • Support the onboarding of new staff (and the ongoing training of current staff) in the use of TNG’s brand guidelines and communications software (i.e. Canva, SharePoint, PowerPoint, templates, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as required

 

Requirements

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Publisher) and MS 365 programs, such as SharePoint, Teams, and One Drive.
  • Experience with content management systems, graphics software, and project management programs (i.e. WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Asana, etc.)
  • Skills in copy-editing, persuasive writing, and communicating complex issues in plain language
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Must have a class five driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in communications, marketing, journalism, advertising or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum two years of relevant experience working in communications, public relations, community engagement or a related field
  • Prior experience working or volunteering in an Indigenous organization or government environment would be an asset

 

Working Conditions 

  • Work will take place in-office with extended periods working at a computer and occasional work at events (indoor and outdoor) or other locations
  • Occasional travel around Williams Lake and to the six Tsilhqot'in communities will be required
  • Work hours are typically 8:30 am – 4:30 pm from Monday to Friday with overtime as required for evening or weekend events
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and additional hardware
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 25lbs
  • Clean criminal record check is a condition of employment
