Job Summary

The Team
The Corporate Writing Services team at the Ministry of Education and Child Care is a group of dedicated professionals who play a crucial role in handling correspondence from parents, teachers, children and partners across the province.The team creates and manages public information materials, including high-level correspondence for the Minister, Deputy Minister, and ministry executives, in response to over 10,000 inquiries annually. The team also develops corporate communication plans and provide expertise in issues management to address critical and emerging concerns.

The Role
As the Team Lead for Corporate Writing Services, you will oversee the daily operations of the Corporate Writing Services team, guiding how responses are managed and working closely with subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and relevance. This dynamic role allows you to shape the voice and tone of the Minister and Minister of State, ensuring that concerns from parents, children, school districts, rights holders and partners are addressed with care and clarity. It's a unique opportunity to build leadership and communication skills while engaging directly with executive leadership and elected officials on important and emerging issues across the province.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements


• Diploma in Communications, Business Administration, Public Relations, English, Journalism or a related field, and *recent (gained within the last 5 years)related experience, OR
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• *Recent (within 5 years)related experience must include each of the following:
• A minimum of one (1) year supervisory experience including scheduling, performance management, and daily delegation of tasks.
• Experience streamlining internal and external communications to disseminate relevant information and decisions to senior/executive leadership and various levels of employees.
• Experience in communications planning (i.e., experience in planning process changes, mandate letters, cyclical division communications).
• Experience developing internal communications polices, standards and processes.

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
• Additional years of experience in any of the above requirements.
• Experience supervising in a unionized environment.
• Experience working in the BC Public Service.

About this Position:
Currently there is one (1) temporary opportunity available in Victoria until November 15, 2025.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
A permanent appointment may result from this temporary appointment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
