Job Summary

The Team:
The Habitat Team, within the Caribou Recovery Program, is a group of experts dedicated to caribou habitat conservation and restoration. Our team is made up of ten passionate professionals from across the province who are supportive, collaborative, and ambitious. We work closely with Section Heads, Wildlife Habitat Specialists, and Wildlife Biologists, contributing to the significant positive impact we are making on caribou conservation and recovery efforts across the province.

The Role:
As a Senior Caribou Recovery Biologist, you will provide leadership and expertise in caribou ecology, working closely with partners, First Nations, and interest groups to drive caribou recovery efforts. Your work will directly contribute to the province's biodiversity, ecosystem health, and reconciliation objectives. This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate on a complex and meaningful natural resource management issue, offering both challenges and rewarding work in a highly collaborative team environment. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Must be a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) in BC with the College of Applied Biologist (CAB), or able to transfer a current RPBio membership to the CAB within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
  • Bachelor's Degree in biological sciences or related field (e.g., natural resource management, wildlife management, ecology, zoology, hydrology, forestry, etc.) AND a minimum of three (3) years of combined related experience; OR,
  • Master's Degree in biological sciences or related field (e.g., natural resource management, wildlife management, ecology, zoology, hydrology, forestry, etc.) AND a minimum of one (1) year of combined related experience.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence or equivalent.

Related Experience:
  • Leading and collaborating with partners in the implementation of provincial policies, regulations, agreements or programs related to the management of wildlife habitat and ecosystems.
  • Experience interpreting and applying environmental management legislation and policy.
  • Experience in public and First Nations consultation processes on ecosystem management issues.
  • Experience leading staff in project or field settings.
  • Experience providing subject matter advice and recommendations to senior decision-makers.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) temporary opportunity available until March 27th, 2026; this may become permanent.
This position can be based in any office for the Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
Travel to Fort Saint John for related field work will be required.
Depending on the successful candidate's location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
