Job Summary

The Team
The BC Parks, West Coast Region, South Island sections team is a passionate, supportive, and inclusive group dedicated to managing the beautiful parks and protected areas on southern Vancouver Island. The established teams, reporting to the Parks and Protected Area Section Head, consists of both full-time and auxiliary staff who work together to deliver frontline services and manage park operations. Collaborating closely with the PPSA Section Head, Recreation Services Officer, and other regional team members and partners, the teams play a crucial role in balancing environmental protection, outdoor recreation, and reconciliation commitments to Indigenous Peoples. Known for their thoughtful and positive approach, they create a welcoming environment where everyone's contributions are valued.

The Role
As a BC Parks Area Supervisor, you'll oversee the management of high-use front country and backcountry parks and protected areas on Vancouver Island, focusing on visitor safety, compliance and enforcement, and facility management. Leading a small team of Park Rangers, you'll collaborate with regional planners, biologists, and local First Nations Governments to support the protection and stewardship of these natural spaces. You'll be responsible for overseeing the management of several high-use campgrounds and trails, and will need to be proficient in project management, collaboration, and comfortable balancing competing views and oversight for various partners. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Completed related degree or 2-year diploma in an Outdoor Recreation Management or a Natural ResourceManagement related field (related field may include: Biology, Geology, Geography, Recreational Planning,Outdoor Recreation, Forestry, Fisheries, Anthropology); OR,
  • Secondary school graduation (or equivalent) and 2 years' *related experience (related experience caninclude: park system (operations), conservation, outdoor recreation, forestry, any earth sciences, recreationplanning, public safety /enforcement).

*Related experience includes:
  • Experience in natural resource management (such as ecosystem management, fish and/or wildlife management,forestry management, invasive species management, natural resource inventory and research, environmental impact assessment), cultural resource management (such as archaeological or cultural site management,archaeology), First Nation agreement management, and/or parks and protected area management encompassinga broad range of activities and initiatives related to the delivery of recreation and conservation programs and services including recreation facility management, natural resource management, inventory or research, parkoperations management, and/or compliance and enforcement; and/or
  • Experience in outdoor recreation management (such as outdoor recreation planning, outdoor recreation facility development, operation and/or maintenance of outdoor recreations facilities, outdoor recreation service delivery); and/or
  • Experience in compliance and enforcement related to natural resource or recreation management


In addition to candidates meeting the above education and experience, preference may also be given to applicantswith experience in any of the following areas:
  • Parks and protected area management encompassing a broad range of activities and initiatives related to thedelivery of recreation and conservation programs and services
  • Compliance and Enforcement related to natural resource, cultural resource, or recreation management (such asenforcement of the Park Act, Wildlife Act, etc.) or development of compliance and enforcement plans to deal withnon-compliance
  • Advanced negotiation experience including mediation and conflict resolution
  • Budget management (budget development, allocation, monitoring and control
  • Contract management (contract planning, tendering, award, monitoring, and evaluation
  • Human resource management (recruiting, hiring, training and supervising staff, volunteers, or project managers inprogram delivery.

About this Position:
Position 1 is a temporary opportunity based in Victoria (Goldstream) until March 31, 2026. This position may be extended.
This position has full time on-site requirements.
