Job Summary

The Team
As the regional stewardship operations arm of the Land Use Planning and Cumulative Effects team, you'll join a dedicated and passionate team made up of professional biologists, ecologists and technical specialists, divided into two main groups: Ecosystems & Habitat and Land Use Planning & Cumulative Effects.Both teams focus on providing subject matter expertise, preserving and restoring aquatic and land-based habitats, and planning larger projects and processes. Working closely with First Nations partners, stakeholders and local communities, the teams protect and conserve ecosystems while supporting species-at-risk recovery, and managing conservation lands. Their efforts help maintain the natural beauty of the Cariboo Region, and foster a healthier environment for everyone.

The Role
As the Resource Manager, you'll lead a dedicated team of up to 14 passionate professionals while providing guidance and support to two section heads. You'll manage human and financial resources, and build strong partner relationships while ensuring the consistent application of legislation, policies and professional standards. This is a unique opportunity to participate in provincial policy development and oversee critical program delivery and professional projects. Your leadership will be pivotal in aligning regional staff work plans with the Ministry's mandate, making a significant impact on the ecosystems and communities we serve.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Master's degree in a related field (e.g. natural resource management, biology, ecology, engineering, forestry, agriculture, environmental science, geography, or other related discipline) and minimum of three (3) years related experience including at least two (2) years supervisory and human resource experience; OR
  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g. natural resource management, biology, ecology, engineering, forestry, agriculture, environmental science, geography, or other related discipline) and a minimum of five (5) years related experience including at least two (2) years supervisory and human resource experience; OR
  • A Diploma in a related field (e.g. natural resource management, biology, ecology, engineering, forestry, agriculture, environmental science, geography, or other related discipline) and a minimum of seven (7) years related experience including at least two (2) years supervisory and human resource experience ; OR
  • An acceptable combination of education or training and related experience in resource management including at least two (2) years supervisory and human resource experience.


Related experience must include at least two (2) of the following:
  • Program/project leadership and management experience related to resource or environmental management, fish/wildlife population and/or habitat management, land administration or planning, including undertaking business process improvements.
  • Experience analyzing complex information from multiple sources and making recommendations for new directions or policies, preparing briefing documents, high level reports, and decision papers for review by others.
  • Administrative leadership or management experience developing, directing and administering programs and projects in a variety of settings, creatively resolving conflicts/issues involving multiple interests, and working effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Establishing resource staffing priorities, allotting and managing human and fiscal resources.


Preference may be given to applicants with:
  • Experience in the assessment and management of natural resources (i.e., wildlife, fish, lands, water, forests) associated with the interior ecosystems of British Columbia.
  • Experience as a statutory decision maker in thenatural resource sector.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
This is a temporary opportunity until July 31, 2025. This position may be extended or become permanent.
A permanent appointment may result from this temporary appointment.
This position is excluded from union membership.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
