Job Summary

The Team
The Indigenous Relations team is a collaborative group of 29 dedicated to ensuring reconciliation is woven into every project and operation. Known for their humor and camaraderie, this established team works closely with district operations and project delivery teams to build meaningful, lasting relationships with Indigenous communities. They take pride in their strong connections to the communities they serve, fostering respect and understanding in all they do.

The Role
As the Project Coordinator, Indigenous Relations, you'll provide vital recommendations on consultation processes, identify emerging issues, and assess Indigenous rights and titles to support reconciliation efforts. By guiding ministry actions, you'll help ensure community interests are respected and relationships are prioritized. This position offers growth in negotiation and relationship-building skills, giving you the chance to directly contribute to economic improvements in Indigenous communities. Curiosity and critical thinking, especially with a focus on long-term relationship goals, are essential for success in this impactful role.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in geography, archaeology, anthropology, political science, public administration, forestry, natural resources, regional planning, law, business administration or related field, OR
  • A relevant diploma/certificate in geography, archaeology, anthropology, political science, public administration, forestry, natural resources, regional planning, law, business administration or related field with a minimum of one (1) year of related experience, OR
  • A minimum of 2 years of related experience.

Related experience should include:
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with Indigenous communities.
  • Experience in participating and/or leading the consultation processes.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and negotiations.
  • Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, historical highway right of way, resource management, social or economic development issues.

Preference may be given to applicants with:
  • Operational experience with highway infrastructure.
  • Experience with property acquisition, surveys, contract services, and tenure related negotiations.

Provisos:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence.

This is for one (1) permanent opportunity in Kamloops.
