The Team
The ESS Program Office is a small, collaborative team dedicated to improving and delivering Emergency Support Services across British Columbia. Composed of 15-20 diverse professionals, the team is committed to making a meaningful impact by providing communities with the tools they need to assist evacuees. Team members work closely with provincial staff, First Nations, local governments, and non-profit organizations, ensuring that our services are inclusive and accessible to all. The Role
The ESS Regional Planning Officer role is responsible for enhancing regional capacity for Emergency Support Services through engagement, collaboration, and strategic planning. The work directly supports evacuees during emergencies by ensuring access to essential services like shelter, food, and basic needs, providing a crucial safety net during vulnerable times. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that strengthen community resilience, with a focus on making a real impact in people's lives. About this Position:

There is one (1) position based in Prince George.
There is one (1) position based in Surrey.
These are one (1) year temporary opportunities. These positions may be extended or become permanent.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to four (4) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
Flexible work options may not be available during emergency operations response periods.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Degree in planning, public administration, emergency management, communication or social science or related field AND one (1) year of related experience*; OR
- Diploma in in planning, public administration, emergency management, communication or social science or related field AND two (2) years of related experience*; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
*Related experience must include:
- Developing and implementing communication and engagement plans and strategies.
- Participating in the development of community or organizational plans.
- Facilitating multi-partner group meetings.
Preference may be given to applicants who have any of the following:
- Experience working with and engaging with First Nations communities and/or organizations.
- Experience with emergency software applications (e.g., Web EOC. ERA, ERA Dynamics, or similar).
- Experience working with Emergency Support Services or Social Service programs.
- Experience working in an emergency management or risk management environment.
Applicants must be willing and able to:
- Be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments, and corporate structures.
- Work on-call and work on-site and extended hours during emergency activations.
- Travel occasionally.
