Job Summary
The Team
The Quesnel Natural Resource District Stewardship Team is a dynamic and well-established group leading the district's efforts in silviculture, forest health, and Forest and Range Evaluation Programs. The team consists of a Stewardship Officer, two Stewardship Foresters, and a Forest Resource Technologist, working together to address the impacts of large wildfires and pest outbreaks. With a focus on diverse field and office work, the team values collaboration, inclusivity, and a commitment to sustainable land management, making a meaningful impact on the local ecosystem and community.
The Role
In this field-based role, you will develop, implement, and monitor contract work for the Stewardship Team, including field data collection, reporting, and making action plan recommendations in collaboration with a team that reviews and analyzes the collected data to create site-specific plans. This work focuses on managing reforestation and forest health projects in areas impacted by wildfires and pest outbreaks, with an emphasis on biodiversity and community interests. The position provides hands-on experience and learning opportunities, integrating First Nations and local input, as you help restore areas impacted by natural disturbances, support wildlife habitat and wetlands, and manage forest diversity and resiliency for sustainable outcomes. The position provides a range of learning opportunities through fieldwork and training.

2 Positions available.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.

Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualification as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree OR Diploma in a natural resource management field and one (1) year of related experience;
- Registered, or eligible for immediate registration* as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC).
*Note: Eligible for immediate registration is defined as being able to immediately transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the appropriate association. Confirmation of registration/ eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be confirmed. If you are not currently registered, advise how you have confirmed with the applicable BC association that you are immediately eligible.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualification as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification. - Valid Class 5 BC Drivers License
Related experience includes the following:
- Experience working in natural resource management.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes that support natural resource management.
Provisos
- Willing and able to meet safety standards of Work Safe BC.
- May be required to operate a variety of equipment.
- Willing and able to conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
- Willing and able to carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.
