The employee population size in Vancouver is approximately 65 people, in a mix of corporate departments such as accounting & finance, legal, administration, IT, HR, etc. Total company size of well over 1000 employees. What- the Opportunity:
On behalf of our client, SWIM is seeking a new Manager, Financial Reporting. The new Manager will lead a global team of 4 to 5 Analysts and Accountants, all of whom will be direct reports into the Manager. This is a leadership role involving people management, coaching, overseeing and reviewing accounting work completed by the accountants, business operations, ad hoc process improvement projects, etc. Along with their Accountants, this Manager is responsible for consolidations for a portfolio of ~12 entities (statutory accounts, joint ventures, etc.). Systems used include a cloud-based ERP, a consolidation tool, a financial reporting tool, and Excel.

There is overtime during 1-2 weeks at quarter-end and for several weeks at the peak of year-end, but for the most part organized and hardworking Managers at this company can obtain better work/life balance than you’d see at most other global public companies or large public practice firms. SWIM will provide interested candidates with a thorough job description.

Who- the Candidate:

At least 7 years’ and ideally 9+ years’ progressive experience in accounting and financial reporting, including public company reporting.
CPA accounting designation (or International equivalent) is required.
Training in a large multi-national public practice accounting firm is highly preferred, ideally up to Manager or Senior Manager level.
Experience working in the corporate office of a global public company is preferred.
Strong knowledge of IFRS is required, knowledge of US GAAP is an asset
Excellent leadership, people management, coaching, mentoring, and training skills are crucial in this role. Candidates must have experience leading at least 2 direct reports, and ideally 4+ direct reports. Experience managing people or teams who live in another country is preferred.
We are looking for people who are resourceful, creative, and self-motivated problem solvers- this Manager will have the opportunity to address all sorts of interesting business issues and problems that crop up.
Experience working closely with external auditors.
There are a lot of deadlines to juggle in this role; therefore, excellent time management and organizational skills along with a process improvement mindset are all crucial.
Top-notch communication skills are important- ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders across many countries.

Where:
Headquartered in Vancouver. Beautiful corporate offices with a great view! For the first couple months, the Manager will likely want to work from the office 4 or 5 days a week as they onboard and establish relationships with their colleagues. Longer-term, the Manager can choose to work on a hybrid schedule.How Much: Base salary commensurate with relevant work experience, skills, qualifications, and education- likely in the range of $120,000 to $160,000.
