Job Summary
The Team
The Integrated Services team at the Ministry of Environment and Parks, has a dynamic and family-oriented atmosphere with 11 dedicated staff members. As a Team Lead, you will collaborate with other technologists and professionals to carry out important and meaningful work, such as overseeing the processing of permits and applications related to hauling of hazardous waste, asphalt plant relocations, and soil amendments that directly affect various operations in the province. In our established team, we focus on helping each other develop and grow, ensuring your talents are utilized to advance both your career and our mission.
The Role
As a Team Lead, you will play a crucial role in protecting the environment by providing evaluation and advice to others on the implementation and administration of the Environmental Management Act. You will manage authorization applications for various sources of waste and hazardous materials, process waste authorizations, conduct source monitoring, calculate permit fees, and facilitate compliance and effective management of waste discharges. This position impacts citizens and businesses across British Columbia by ensuring the safe movement of hazardous waste, and it provides the opportunity to make a direct and meaningful impact on the industrial and environmental sectors, contributing to a cleaner, more beautiful province for years to come.

About this Position:

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in business administration, public administration, geography, environmental management or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- One year or more recent (within the last five years) experience supervising or leading staff
- Experience reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating complex issues
- Experience with computer applications, including MS Office, database programs, and web-based software
- Experience developing or implementing procedures and business processes
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Experience supervising or leading staff in a unionized environment
- Experience interpreting and applying legislation, regulations, and policy
- Experience in natural resource management
- Experience in permitting and/or authorizations
- Experience working in a high-volume, regulatory environment, under the pressure of tight timelines
- Knowledge of the principles of administrative fairness and natural justice
