Job Summary

The Team
The Indigenous Family Services Team is an established group dedicated to advocating for Indigenous equality and integrity. Our team has the honour and privilege of working with Indigenous communities on the səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie), qiqéyt (Qayqayt) territories, engaging in meaningful ways that honour truth-telling, community wisdom, and culture. We collaborate with community partners, provincial, federal, and non-governmental agencies to enhance service delivery, ensure child safety and meet the needs of Indigenous children, youth, and families.

Our team of five dedicated Family Services workers, supported by a skilled Roots Practitioner, is at the heart of our commitment to child safety and family support. We work closely with the local Indigenous community and various support services, both on Lands and within the broader community, to provide comprehensive care. By collaborating with these essential partners, we ensure that children and their families receive the support they need, with a focus on cultural respect and inclusivity. The Role
In this role, you will deliver a broad range of child safety and prevention-based services, supervise and guide a team who provide child protection services for Indigenous communities/families, and manage the multidisciplinary approach to ministry programs and services in accordance with legislation and policies. You will ensure culturally safe and trauma-informed practices that support and honour Indigenous peoples' cultural systems. Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements:

Applicants may be considered who meet the preferred OR expanded credentials and experience requirements.

1. Preferred Credentials:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Social Work or in Child & Youth Care OR Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
  • In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) OR
  • A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
  • At least two (2) years of job-specific work experience.
  • Three (3) or more months experience supervising staff, obtained within the last five (5) years.


2. Expanded Credentials:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor's Degree with a Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Master's level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor's Degree.
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
  • Minimum one (1) year of related work experience and at least two (2) years of job-specific work experience OR At least three (3) years of job-specific work experience.
  • Three (3) or more months experience supervising staff, obtained within the last five (5) years.


Human Services fields include: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • Preferred education credentials AND/OR in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who hold a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
  • Experience working and collaborating with Indigenous communities.
  • Experience working with Indigenous children and youth and their families.
  • Currently hold full (C6) delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
  • Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.


Please note:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

About this Position:
Amendment September 11, 2024: Posting closing date extended to September 25, 2024.
This position is based in Maple Ridge and provides services to Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge. Travel between these communities is required.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies for all locations listed above.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
