Job Summary

The Team
Join a dynamic and dedicated team at Cranbrook Community Corrections, consisting of two administrative staff, a local manager, and eight Probation Officers (PO24s and PO15s). Our office is based in Cranbrook, BC, but we serve a large geographical area with itinerant offices in Creston, Invermere, Golden, and Fernie. We have a healthy balance of established staff and energetic newcomers. Each staff member is encouraged to take on portfolios that reflect their interests, including organizational health, CORE programming, and community connections. The Cranbrook team has most recently piloted the paperless project, contributed to UCMP planning and development, and supported flexible work agreements, among other significant initiatives.

Our team takes pride in the work they do and consistently steps up to support their peers when needed. If you're looking for a role in a collaborative and innovative environment, this could be the perfect opportunity.

The Role
As a Probation Officer 15, you will play a vital role in supervising adults placed on probation, conditional sentences, bail, and other legal orders, ensuring that clients understand and comply with the conditions set by the court. You will monitor client behavior and progress, documenting and reporting any violations to appropriate authorities while also developing personalized case management plans based on assessments of client needs. This includes referrals to critical community resources such as mental health support, addiction counseling, and Indigenous justice services. Additionally, you will assist probation officers with risk assessments, provide specialized bail supervision, and facilitate alternative measures such as community work service or restorative justice initiatives. This role offers the chance to build meaningful connections with the community, participate in diverse and unique initiatives, and provide vital support to individuals at pivotal moments in their lives, making it deeply rewarding.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Completion of a two-year diploma or 60 credits of post-secondary education towards a diploma or degree from a Canadian designated educational institution.
  • Successful completion of the Adult Probation Officer pre-requisite course (CORR1000). Exemptions may apply.
  • Valid Class 5 B.C. driver's license. A valid Class 7 may be considered.

Proviso:
  • Overnight travel to remote locations and working outside typical work hours may be required.

Note: Candidates who are currently employed as a Probation Officer 15 or Adult Probation Officer (auxiliary or regular) with the BC Corrections Branch are deemed to meet the education, experience, pre-requisite course, and language proficiency index qualifications and are not required to provide proof with their application.
