Just HR ( a Horizon company) has been engaged to conduct a search for a Payroll Associate for a growing company in the financial services sector. Our client, one of Canada’s largest independent investment dealers, is seeking an experienced payroll professional to join their dynamic team. With a national footprint and approximately 300 employees, including commission-based professionals and salaried staff, this growing financial services firm administers over $10 billion in assets. The payroll specialist will play a pivotal role in ensuring payroll operations run smoothly and efficiently. This position is both strategic and hands-on, requiring someone with proven leadership skills and the ability to streamline processes while managing a small team. This role will be primarily in office. Our client values flexibility and supports career development.

Responsibilities:

Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for approximately 300 employees, including commission-based professionals with complex compensation structures and salaried staff across Canada.
Ensure compliance with all federal and provincial payroll regulations, including year-end reporting and tax filings.
Develop and implement payroll policies and procedures to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including finance, HR, and departmental managers, to resolve payroll-related inquiries and ensure seamless integration of payroll data.
Handle escalated payroll issues, providing hands-on support to ensure timely and accurate resolution.
Monitor payroll system functionality, recommending upgrades or process improvements as needed.
Prepare detailed payroll reports and analysis for senior leadership, offering insights into trends and opportunities for cost optimization.

Requirements:

Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in payroll management, with experience in both salaried and commission-based compensation plans.
Professional payroll certification (e.g., PCP or CPM designation)
Proven experience managing payroll for a multi-province workforce in Canada, preference to experience in professional or financial services.
Hands-on expertise in handling complex payroll structures, including those for commission sales professionals.
In-depth knowledge of federal and provincial payroll regulations, including tax requirements and statutory deductions.
Exceptional analytical skills, with a track record of improving payroll processes and creating operational efficiencies.
Proficiency in payroll software and systems; experience with major platforms is an asset. Excellent excel user-level skills.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with a customer-service mindset.

Remuneration:

Salary $75-85K plus bonus based on experience
