Hybrid/Remote Primary. Director can be based almost anywhere in Canada. 25% business travel. Working for a well-established and reputable company in the financial services space that is rolling out a new financial product. Candidates must have experience working in, and selling to, the financial services sector (preferably in fin-tech)

What- the Opportunity: 
Director of Sales and Business Development.  This is a newly created role to business growth. The new Director of BD will have tons of greenfield to explore across Canada. The company is very well-established, reputable, and well-resourced, so the Director of BD is essentially getting the best of both worlds- the autonomy and energizing entrepreneurial approach that comes with selling a new product, with the backing, resources, and brand of a long-standing and stable organization.
In-person client interaction is very important in this role, as is networking and attending relevant conferences. We are looking for a consummate sales professional who is hungry, resourceful, and autonomous, and who has a long-term and strategic approach to business development.

Who- the Candidate:
Qualified candidates will have at least 10 years’ progressive sales experience, including at least 7 years’ experience selling a financial product to clients across Canada in the financial services. We are looking for very well-rounded business development professionals- folks with experience in building strategic sales pipelines across the country, triaging immediate sales targets from slow-burn prospects, replying to RFPs, analyzing the market and the competition, researching new sales trends, partnering with IT and Finance on go-to-market strategies, contributing to branding, etc. This is a full-cycle sales role- from cold approach right through to contract signature and beyond (eventually clients will be transitioned to account management teams).  Given this Director will be accountable for selling a brand-new product in the Canadian market, we are ideally looking for candidates who have relevant greenfield sales experience- perhaps gained from a fintech start-up or from a similar situation selling a new product or an existing product in a brand-new market.

Where:
HYBRID/REMOTE PRIMARY. We are open to qualified candidates residing in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Newfoundland & Labrador, or the Maritimes.
The Director of BD can be based anywhere in Canada, as long as they are able and willing to do around 25% business travel (perhaps a bit less if they live in the Greater Toronto Area, as there are likely to be more clients in and around that region).
The sales team is close-knit and enjoys time together in work and social settings, both virtually and in-person.

How Much:
Initially the compensation package will mostly involve a competitive base salary and bonuses, as it’s not expected that the Director of BD will close many/any major contracts in Year 1 while they are strategically building out the sales pipeline. Base salary is commensurate with work experience and proven sales skills- starting at $130,000 and upwards from there. With time, the total compensation mix can shift more and more towards commission, as the Director builds a more robust sales pipeline and recurring revenue from signed contracts starts coming in.
