Job Description

Horizon Recruitment is conducting a search for a Director of Tax – US & International. This key player will manage tax compliance and optimization across multiple jurisdictions. Leading the charge for our client's US operations, the Tax Director will also coordinate with the VP, Tax and work closely with outside tax consultants and advisors. The main tax areas of interest are the UK and the US, but our client also has global subsidiaries in countries like Singapore, Brazil, and Australia.

 

In this senior role, the Tax Director will oversee tax matters for our client's portfolio companies. As the go-to expert on all things tax, the successful candidate will develop and implement corporate tax policies and procedures with international implications, craft strategic plans for cross-border transactions, and analyze business transactions to recommend the best tax strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure tax compliance and timely reporting in line with all tax laws, including indirect tax obligations.
  • Oversee and document transfer pricing policies, ensuring they match business operations and regulatory requirements.
  • Create tax planning strategies by using knowledge of US and foreign tax laws, along with tax treaties, to optimize withholding and income taxes, and effectively utilize foreign tax credits or deductions.
  • Collaborate with business partners on tax-related aspects of supply chain management, corporate transactions, foreign investments, expansions, trade, acquisitions, strategic partnerships, and commercial agreements.
  • Prepare the group of companies' quarterly and annual tax provisions.
  • Support corporate financial reporting by ensuring timely and accurate reconciliations of tax-related balance sheet accounts and preparing necessary footnote disclosures.
  • Generate timely tax forecasts.
  • Manage relationships with tax authorities and external auditors, providing necessary documentation and support during tax audits.
  • Stay updated on changes in tax laws to anticipate their impact on operating companies.
  • Assist the legal team with tax issues related to the formation and dissolution of legal entities, corporate governance, and commercial contracts.
  • Work closely with accounting and finance teams to address tax compliance and specific tax issues, including audits.
  • Coordinate with finance, treasury, and accounting to ensure tax-efficient cash management, including the investment, redeployment, and repatriation of funds from foreign subsidiaries.
  • Partner with the VP, Tax to establish the long-term strategy for the tax department, manage tax risks, and communicate with senior management on tax matters. 

Requirements:

  • CPA or similar professional certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Over 10 years of combined experience in public accounting, legal, and corporate tax departments, specializing in international tax.
  • Proven ability to manage various tax issues in a fast-paced setting, including adjusting to different geographic time zones.
  • Skilled in researching and clearly communicating technical tax issues to non-tax professionals.
  • Experience with large multinational companies is an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of indirect tax concepts.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to think strategically and make well-informed decisions or recommendations in a complex international tax environment. 

 Remuneration:

  • Range is $160,000 - $180,000 CAD per annum. Base salary offered will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience, job-related skills and knowledge, and pay equity.
