The BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres (BCAAFC) is the umbrella organization for Friendship Centres across BC. Friendship Centres are not-for-profit, Indigenous-led, social service organizations that work to promote, develop, and deliver accessible programs and services that support Indigenous peoples living in urban areas and away from home. They provide a wide range of wraparound programs and services to communities - youth, child and family wellness, employment and training, education, health, economic development, language, culture and arts, preventing violence, sport and recreation, and community outreach.
BCAAFC promotes the betterment of Friendship Centres in BC, maintains communication between Friendship Centres, other provincial associations and the National Association of Friendship Centres, and supports the development of programs to improve the quality of life for Indigenous people living in BC.

About the OpportunityThe BCAAFC is looking for a full-time Director of Anti-Violence Programs, working remotely from anywhere in British Columbia. Please note that candidates will be required to travel within B.C. or Canada (5-6 trips/yr).
In this role, you will report to the Manager of Human Resources and Special Projects and be accountable for leading projects that support Indigenous women and children in being free from gender-based violence. A key focus will be on organizational development, including designing and implementing a model for an Indigenous Women’s organization. This will involve leading a community development strategy to assess needs and develop actionable strategies. As part of this, you will advocate for issues related to Indigenous gender-based violence at the regional, provincial, and national levels, while building and maintaining strong relationships with decision-makers, elected officials, Anti-Violence organizations, and Indigenous communities.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Developing and maintaining relationships with project partners
- Liaising with funders to fulfill reporting requirements and identifying budgetary needs
- Leading the annual planning process and coordinating report presentations
- Supervising and mentoring project staff, including a GBV Research Coordinator and GBV Administrative Coordinator
- Leading grant writing and proposals to support capacity building and long-term development
- Ensuring projects are aligned with organizational goals and funding requirements
To qualify, you will need a minimum of 5 years of experience in program management, project coordination, or a related role. Experience working with Indigenous communities and Indigenous service organizations will also be essential.
Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Knowledge of Indigenous communities, cultures, and barriers faced by urban/off-reserve Indigenous peoples
- Understanding of gender-based violence and application of an anti-oppressive, feminist lens
- Experience in program evaluation and Indigenous anti-violence programming
- Familiarity with Friendship Centres and other similar support resources
- Financial and budget management experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
