Work Arrangements
The Department of Anthropology and Sociology invites applications for contract instructor(s) to teach courses in cultural anthropology, archaeology, and Indigenous culture.

We will will hire for at least four sections for the Winter 2025 semester, beginning January 6, 2025.

Additional courses would be determined in consultation with successful candidates in keeping with their areas of expertise. Such courses include:

ANTH 1100: Introduction to Social and Cultural Anthropology (multiple sections)

ANTH 1101: World Prehistory: Ancient Peoples and Places

ANTH 1112: Introduction to Archaeology

ANTH 1120: Indigenous Cultures of British Columbia

ANTH 1130: Anthropology of Religion

ANTH 1160: Indigenous Cultures of Canada

The Role
The Anthropology Department at Douglas College invites applications for a contract faculty position beginning in the Winter 2025 semester. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, cultural anthropology, archaeology, and Indigenous culture.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant(s) will:

    •Plan lectures and seminars based on the curriculum and program guidelines
    •Instruct students and facilitate learning
    •Assess and evaluate student progress
    •Plan, organize, and manage learning activities
    •Provide academic advice to learners
    •Maintain quality learner-centred instruction
    •Actively contribute to collegial activities within the department, the faculty, and the college
    •Work with colleagues to maintain a positive working environment"
To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need
Successful Applicants Will Meet the Following Criteria:

    •A completed PhD in Anthropology from an accredited university. Doctoral candidates may be considered if a defence date is established.
    •Demonstrated evidence of experience in teaching courses in cultural anthropology, archaeology, and Indigenous cultures, particularly at the first year level.
    •Demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching diverse groups of students, and commitment to undergraduate education.
