Job Summary
The Team
We are excited to welcome new members to the Northwest Fire Centre Dispatch team, comprised of one dispatch supervisor, two dispatch leads, and four dispatchers. Our established team plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of our crews and aircraft by working closely with aircraft, personnel, operations staff, and fire centre teams. Our team is responsible for responding to fire reports and all communications within the Northwest Fire Centre. The Role
As a Dispatch Lead at the Northwest Fire Centre, you will play a vital role in managing emergency response for wildfire situations across British Columbia. Your responsibilities will include supervising Dispatchers, delivering their training, and ensuring the effective execution of dispatch duties. The position requires a solid foundation of knowledge and experience in dispatch operations. Furthermore, it necessitates the capability to work collaboratively and lead a team under pressure, as you will be responsible for mentoring and supervising Dispatchers during periods of increased wildfire activity. This temporary (auxiliary) opportunity starts in approximately March 2025 and ends in November 2025, with possibility of recall on a yearly basis.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Grade 12 or an equivalent combination of education, training and related experience
Preference maybe given to applicants with:
- Emergency response related experience
- Supervisory experience
- Experience working in a demanding environment with strict timelines
Provisos /Willingness statement(s)
- Valid Class 5 Drivers licence
- To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures.
- To keep current on emerging issues.
- To take in-house training and certification as required.
- To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
- To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
- To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.
- To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned.
- To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions.
