Job Description
Vancouver Island University's Child and Youth Care Program is now accepting applications for instructor(s) to teach one or more of the following courses (may be face-to-face or online):
CYC 101 (Theoretical Foundations in Child and Youth Care)
CYC 112 (Adolescent Development)
CYC 232 (Diverse Abilities in Child and Youth Care)
CYC 350 (Law and Child and Youth Care Practice)
CYC 410 Advanced Supervised Practicum (April-July)
Faculty are responsible for preparing and delivering classes, designing and grading student assignments and tests, and facilitating student integration of theory and practice. Faculty will also participate in program and faculty meetings, liaise with support staff, other staff and faculty. Vancouver Island University places an emphasis on teaching excellence and also encourages scholarly activity and community involvement.
Successful candidates will be responsive to diverse cultural and academic backgrounds and learning styles.
This position may require travel to a variety of practice settings on Vancouver Island.
Starting Salary:
$8,196.30 per assigned course consisting of three workload hours. The rate for any courses requiring fewer or greater hours shall be prorated based on this standard. See the full posting for more information.
Required Qualifications:
PhD in relevant field, or Masters' degree in Child and Youth Care or related field and 7 years experience in Child and Youth Care. Recent practical experience working with children, youth, and/or their families in community based settings, knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal ways of knowing and cultural teachings. A demonstrated understanding of Child and Youth Care orientation to practice. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer competence.
Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a satisfactory driving record.
