Job Summary

The Team
The East Kootenay Rural Child and Youth Mental Health Team provides vital mental health services to children, youth, and their families. Our team works directly with children and youth facing serious emotional, psychological, behavioral, or psychiatric challenges. We collaborate closely with families and communities to promote positive mental health and well-being. By joining this team, you'll partner with a diverse group of professionals dedicated to making a meaningful impact on the lives of children and youth.

The Role
In this role, you'll provide direct clinical services, including intake, assessment, treatment, and crisis intervention, to support children, youth, and their families. You'll work closely with community agencies, schools, hospitals, and other programs to ensure comprehensive care. Your work will have a lasting impact, as you build strong relationships with clients, families, and community partners to coordinate services, resolve conflicts, and influence positive outcomes. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing emotional and behavioral challenges.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Registered or eligible for immediate registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
    • NOTE:If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
  • Minimum of one year full-time equivalent experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver's license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).


Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • Two years or more experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services .
  • Experience providing intake services and/or initial assessments to children and youth virtually.
  • Applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.

This position requires travel one (1) to three (3) days per week to rural communities in the East Kootenays (Creston, Fernie, Invermere and occasionally Golden).
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) day at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
