Job Summary
The Team
The Indigenous Health and Reconciliation (IHR) team works in partnership with Indigenous communities and organizations to address Indigenous-specific racism and improve health outcomes for Indigenous peoples in BC. Collaborating with the First Nations Health Authority, Métis Nation BC, urban Indigenous partners, provincial ministries, health authorities, and other key stakeholders, the team is dedicated to advancing reconciliation and equitable health care. This work is rooted in respect, collaboration, and a commitment to meaningful change that reflects the voices and needs of Indigenous peoples.
The Role
As a change leader and champion, you will lead the Cultural Safety and Humility and Systems Transformation branch, driving meaningful systemic change in BC's health care system. With a focus on the In Plain Sight Report recommendations, the Executive Director, provides strategic direction to eliminate Indigenous-specific racism and discrimination and embed cultural safety and humility in BC's health care system. This work directly impacts Indigenous peoples in BC by fostering safer, more equitable health care experiences and outcomes.

About this Position:
This position can be based in any Ministry of Health office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations. It is our intention that the successful candidate is able to work from their home community within BC, provided the location meets our requirements for working conditions and internet access. Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 5 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.

A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Degree in a related field (e.g., social and human sciences, Indigenous studies, organization development, public administration) AND 5 years *related experience.
- An equivalent combination of education and *related experience may be considered.
*Related experience required must include ALL of the following:
- Experience in a senior management role in leading, developing, aligning and implementing complex plans and programs.
- Experience establishing collaborative relationships with internal and external partners to lead organizational change associated with coordinated implementation and service delivery.
- Experience working with First Nations and/or Métis communities and Indigenous organizations.
- Experience in strategic business planning; project management; contract management; financial management; and leading multi-agency/multi-jurisdictional teams.
- Experience in written and oral communications at a senior level, including delivering presentations to senior management, executive and external partners.
- Experience in leading multiple project teams and working with diverse partners and stakeholders and subject matter experts to develop timely and effective strategies, plans and program development.
- Experience balancing conflicting interests and negotiating/mediating solutions in critical high-stress situations.
Preference may be given to applicants:
- Who identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit)
- Who have a Master's Degree in a related field (e.g., Indigenous studies, social and human sciences, organizational development, public administration).
