About the Opportunity

Eabametoong First Nation is seeking full-time Teachers for Junior, Intermediate, and Special Education classes, based in Eabamet Lake, ON.

Reporting to the EFNEA Principal, you will play a pivotal role in nurturing and developing the academic abilities and cultural understanding of our students.

In this position, you will be primarily responsible for delivering educational programs that adhere to established curricula while promoting respect for Native heritage and community values.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Teaching diligently the classes or subjects assigned by the principal
  • Encouraging students in the pursuit of learning
  • Inculcating values such as respect for the Creator, self, and environment
  • Maintaining order and discipline in the classroom and school grounds
  • Participating in professional development days as designated
  • Conducting classroom activities in accordance with the school timetable
  • Preparing teaching plans and course outlines when requested
  • Promoting native language and heritage through classroom displays and courses
About You

To qualify, you must be certified to teach in a Canadian province, preferably with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) or a comparable teaching degree from another province. You should have 2+ years of experience in education, ideally within environments similar to First Nations communitiesIf your education was obtained outside Canada, a current evaluation of your qualifications will be required.  Ability to undergo a Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector checks will also be required.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Awareness and appreciation of First Nations culture
  • Ability to communicate effectively and engage respectfully with diverse cultures and passionate community members
  • Adaptability to remote and culturally unique living conditions
  • Proven experience in creating and maintaining a nurturing, supportive and inclusive learning environment
  • An appreciation for living on the land with an interest in outdoor activities such as boating, fishing, and hunting
  • Experience with or willingness to learn about local traditions and customs
  • Capacity to handle the physical and logistical challenges of a rural setting
  • Openness to participating in community activities and events

About the Benefits

Compensation based on skills and experience is a competitive annual  starting salary of $60,000-$70,000, negotiable depending on your experience, and a host of excellent benefits including:

  • Isolation Allowance: $3,000 per year
  • Relocation Allowance: $2,000 per year
