Job Summary

The Team
The VanJam Fire Zone team is a well-established group of 52 dedicated professionals committed to wildfire management and prevention. You'll collaborate with a diverse group of roles, including Wildfire Technicians, Assistants, and Crew Leaders, fostering strong connections and teamwork. Known for their experience, hard work, and compassionate culture, the team values collaboration and cooperation to make a meaningful impact in wildfire operations and community safety.

The Role
As a Wildfire Technician, you'll manage your assigned portfolios .Your work plays a crucial role in natural disaster mitigation, primarily through fire suppression, directly impacting community safety. This position offers the chance to lead in emergency situations and make a meaningful difference for others.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Degree in a field related to forestry, resource management or equivalent knowledge, plus 1 year recent related experience*;OR
  • Technical diploma in a field related to forestry, resource management, or equivalent knowledge, plus 3 years recent related experience*;OR
  • Grade 12 plus 5 years related experience*;OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and training; AND
  • Minimum 2 years of demonstrated supervisory experience; AND
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers license or equivalent

*Related experience is defined as operations or other disciplines related to natural resource management
Preference may be given to candidates with:
  • Incident Command 4 or higher

Provisos /Willingness statements
  • To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures.
  • To keep current on emerging issues.
  • To take in-house training and certification as required.
  • To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
  • To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
  • To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.
  • To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned.
  • To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions.
  • To obtain and maintain certification and training for position to meet operational requirements.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
Flexible work options may not be available during emergency operations response periods.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
Vanderhoof is home to the Kenney Dam and sits on the Nechako River, in the flat spot between the BC coastline and the Rocky Mountain Range . Vanderhoof hosts events all year long, including hockey and golf tournaments.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
