Job Summary

The Team
The Chilcotin Fire Zone team is a diverse and dedicated group, made up of 9 office and field staff, along with a 22-person unit crew. This established team works collaboratively with other wildfire prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery staff in the Chilcotin Fire Zone, the Cariboo Fire Centre, and across the province. Together, they play a crucial role in protecting the citizens of British Columbia, and their positive, team-oriented environment makes this a fulfilling place to work.

The Role
As a Wildfire Assistant in the Chilcotin Fire Zone, you will play a key role in wildfire response and management, contributing directly to the safety and resilience of local communities. This position offers the chance to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where your efforts in wildfire prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery will have a meaningful impact on the citizens of British Columbia. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Technical diploma in a field related to forestry or resource management, or equivalent knowledge, plus 2 seasons recent related experience; or
  • Grade 12 plus 4 seasons in related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Related experience is defined as operations or other disciplines related to natural resource management
  • Minimum 1 season of demonstrated supervisory experience
  • Valid class 5 driver licence


Preference may be given to candidates with:
  • Incident Commander 5 or higher
  • A technical diploma in a field related to forestry or natural resource management


Provisos /Willingness statement(s)
  • To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures
  • To keep current on emerging issues
  • To take in-house training and certification as required
  • To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required
  • To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan
  • To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required
  • To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned
  • To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions
  • To obtain and maintain certification and training for position to meet operational requirements

About this Position:
This position has full time on-site requirements.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
This temporary (auxiliary) opportunity starts in approximately April 2025 and ends in November 2025, with possibility of recall on a yearly basis.
This position may be extended or become permanent.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
