Job Summary
The Team
The Vancouver Coastal Out of Care Team is a newly formed group dedicated to providing assessments and ongoing support for Out of Care Options. Our team consists of seven passionate staff members, with two in North Vancouver, three in Vancouver, one in the Sea to Sky Corridor, and one on the Sunshine Coast. You will collaborate closely with front-line workers to help establish and maintain placements that keep children with family and friends, rather than placing them in the foster care system. This approach fosters better family connections, supports children's identity development, and ensures cultural continuity. Our work is engaging and fast-paced, creating a supportive environment where every team member can thrive and make a meaningful impact.
The Role
As an Out of Care Worker, you will meet with and support caregivers, complete assessments, manage contracts, and provide financial support to ensure the success of Out of Care placements. You will also participate in group planning meetings alongside front-line workers, as a support to the Out of Care families. As the Out of Care Options worker, your work is aimed at strengthening placements so children can stay with their extended family and friends instead of entering the foster care system. This position offers a chance to work in an evolving area of Ministry practice that positively impacts children and families. You will find inspiration in supporting families as they help children maintain their cultural, spiritual, and familial connections, making a real difference in their lives.

About this Position:
There are two (2) vacancies available:
These positions may require occasional weekend and evening work, and the capacity to travel to support other communities in the Service Delivery Area.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.

Education and Experience Requirements
1. Preferred Credentials:
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Social Work or in Child & Youth Care OR Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
- In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) OR
- A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.
- NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
2. Expanded Credentials:
- Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor's Degree with a Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Master's level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor's Degree.
- PLUS, a minimum of one year of related OR job-specific work experience.
- Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
