Job Summary
The Team
The Vancouver/Richmond After Hours Response Team (AHRT) provides crucial afterhours, weekend, and holiday support to Centralized Screening and District offices in Richmond, UBC, Vancouver, and North Vancouver. This team, established in 2017, responds to immediate or 24-hour files and handles action requests from District offices for fieldwork within the area, including those flagged by Vancouver Police under the Car 86 program. AHRT is comprised of two mini-teams, each with one team leader and three social workers, operating on a 7-on-7-off rotation, supported by seven auxiliary workers and one office manager. Collaboration with Vancouver Police (Car 86), Richmond RCMP (Yankee 30), and patrol members from various police departments is integral. The team's work ensures the immediate safety of children and families during emergent situations, with a focus on cooperation and extensive collective experience, fostering an environment of strong coordination and community impact.
The Role
TheChild Protection Worker, After Hours Response (7on 7off)role offers immediate support to clients during moments of extreme crisis or conflict, making a significant and tangible impact on their lives. Candidates should be excited about the diversity of the work, which includes assessing immediate safety, screening reports, performing wellbeing checks, extending safety and family plans, serving court documents, and more. Each shift brings unique challenges and opportunities, ensuring that no two days are the same. Ideal applicants will be inspired by the opportunity to handle complex cases independently, manage crises, and make a real difference in their community during emotionally charged situations.

About this Position:

This is a temporary opportunity until July 31, 2025. This position may be extended or become permanent.
This temporary posting is not limited to the geographic area. Board and lodging and relocation expenses do not apply.
The positions have full time on-site requirements.
Part time employees may be considered.
The position headquarters will be Vancouver.
This position is on a 7 day on 7 day off shift rotation working three (3) 11 hour shifts and four (4) 9.25 hour shifts to equal 70 hours in a one week period. This includes weeknights, weekends, and stat holidays when the regular government office is closed.
Regular travel is a requirement of the position as it serves the following locations: Vancouver, West Vancouver, North Vancouver, Horseshoe Bay and Richmond.

A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required.

- Must be screened and approved by VPD and RCMP to participate in the Ministry/Police partnership cars (Car 86, Yankee 30).
