Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team in the Emergency department at Stewart Health Centre.

Within a model of person-centered care and guided by the vision and values of Northern Health, the Staff Nurse is responsible and accountable to provide professional nursing services in a manner consistent with Northern Health standards, the College of BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), the National Emergency Nursing Affiliation (NENA) Standards and the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Code of Ethics for Nursing..

Reporting to the Emergency Manager and as a member of a health care team, the Staff Nurse applies Emergency Nursing knowledge and skills to care for various complex health care issues, from non-urgent to life threatening, for clients who present to the Emergency Department.
Rural Emergency Training Program - UNBC Nurs 455/451
• There are 1 training positions available for 2024/25
• Northern Health provides placement support and funding for tuition, textbooks, and travel expenses for clinical placements, as required
• Learners should expect to make a 4 - 8 month commitment for this education, which includes online and in-person learning
• Additional study time, outside of scheduled hours, may be required to successfully complete the program
• Flexibility for practicums is necessary
• Applicants must successfully complete the education program prior to working in the department
• Upon successful completion of the education program, Northern Health requires an eighteen (18) month return of service in a regular position in the area of nursing applicable to the education program.
• Qualified applicants will be considered first for specialty positions. If there are no qualified applicants, training lines will be awarded to unqualified applicants and training will be provided

Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Monday to Friday, Days - 08:00 to 16:00

Stewart Health Centre
Stewart Health Centre provides:
• Outpatient services
• 24/7 on-call care
• Public Health services
• Pre/postnatal infant and childcare
• Walk in emergency services
• Full-time Lab and X-ray departments
Hospital staff:
• 2 full-time Physicians
• Public health nurse
• Nursing and support staff
Other services provided at Stewart Health Centre:
• Medical clinic
• Patient/physician videoconferencing consultations
• Visiting specialities clinics
• Ambulance
• Mental Health and Addictions services

Stewart
Located at the head of Portland Canal, a steep, narrow ocean fjord that forms a natural border between British Columbia and Alaska is the community of Stewart. This is one of the most spectacular spots in BC, with its towering snow-capped mountains and hanging glaciers of Bear Pass. The population of Stewart is approximately 500 people. The major industries are logging, mining and tourism. There are four elementary schools, one middle school, one secondary school, and two post-secondary schools. Qualfications
• Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant.
