Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team in the Emergency department at Valemount D & T Centre.

Under the general supervision of the Site Administrator of the Houston Health Centre and the clinical direction of the Director of Nursing for the East Cluster, provides nursing care for patients on an emergency, day care and ambulatory basis. Provides nursing intervention patient care. Works required shift rotations. Assist emergency health services with the transfer of patients to referral hospitals. Provide necessary statistical data and documentation. Maintain inventory for the department. Assist in liaison with other health service providers within the Northern Health Authority.

Rural Emergency Training Program - UNBC Nurse 455/451
• There are 1 training positions available for 2024/25
• Northern Health provides placement support and funding for tuition, textbooks, and travel expenses for clinical placements, as required
• Learners should expect to make a 4 - 8 month commitment for this education, which includes online and in-person learning
• Additional study time, outside of scheduled hours, may be required to successfully complete the program
• Flexibility for practicums is necessary
• Applicants must successfully complete the education program prior to working in the department
• Upon successful completion of the education program, Northern Health requires an eighteen (18) month return of service in a regular position in the area of nursing
applicable to the education program.
• Qualified applicants will be considered first for specialty positions. If there are no qualified applicants, training lines will be awarded to unqualified applicants and
training will be provided

Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Monday to Friday, Days, 08:00 to 16:00

Valemount Community Health Center is a full-service health center which provides emergency medical care, lab services, seniors' programs, addictions services, counselling services, home and community care, public health and more.
Programs:
• Prenatal registry and pre/postnatal group appointments
• Primary Care Nurses - Immunization, prenatal, palliative care in community
• Evening clinics to target our working population
• Well Woman clinics
• Foot care clinics (limited)
• Patient self-management room where the patients can take their own blood pressure, weigh themselves, and use the computer to access sites such as How's Your Health
• Outpatient clinics with visiting specialists (Orthopedic, Rheumatology, Paediatric, Renal)
• Mental Health and Substance Use
• Life skills worker

Valemount Located in the beautiful Robson Valley, Valemount is nestled between the Canadian Rockies, the Monashee Mountains and the Cariboo Mountains. Valemount is the home of Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Rockies and the origin of the Fraser River. The major industries include forestry, ranching, and tourism. Qualfications
• Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant.
• CPR and ACLS Certification.
• Post basic training and/or one year recent related clinical experience in a critical care area or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience acceptable to the health centre.

Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability to organize assigned workload and set priorities.
• Demonstrated ability to start IV's.
• Ability to work independently.
• Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts including coworkers, physicians, community agencies representatives, patients, and families.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
