We invite applications for the position of:

 

Purchasing Assistant

 

Under the supervision of the Purchasing Manager, the Purchasing Assistant process purchase requests, prepare tenders, maintain the Central Stores inventory, order supplies, oversee the sales of surplus equipment/materials, respond to inquiries, and perform clerical duties.

 

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • process and monitor Surplus Inventory Sales of equipment/material;
    • maintain Central Stores inventory records and monitor all stock inventories;
    • monitor inventory reports, locate and correct problems with inventory cost averaging;
    • process inventory reports for yearly audit;
    • monitor and adjust various general ledger accounts associated with inventory;
    • prepare and issue purchase orders following current procedures and policy;
    • prepare and execute agreements/contracts as required;
    • monitor, process, and maintain Visa Card applications, changes and cancellations;
    • purchase office supplies for Operations Department;
    • prepare and monitor a variety of reports using Sparkrock;
    • perform word processing duties to prepare a variety of correspondence and to complete Purchase Orders, Stock Requisitions and tenders, etc.
    • communicate with staff to provide information on purchasing practices and District policy;
    • respond to general inquiries.

 The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • completion of Secondary School (Grade 12);
    • one (1) year previous experience in a related position;
    • one (1) year of accounting experience within the last three years;
    • knowledge and experience with data input, spreadsheets (e.g. Excel);
    • knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat;
    • a net typing speed of thirty-five (35) words per minute.

 

The successful applicant will be expected to:

  • maintain a high quality of work including accuracy and dependability;
  • possess good organizational skills and maintain excellent interpersonal skills;
  • successfully complete the District's clerical assessment and the District Bookkeeping course;
  • complete the required District's Health and Safety training.

This is full time continuing position starting as soon as possible, working 35 hours per week at a wage rate of $28.80 per hour, plus a comprehensive employee benefit package including extended health and dental coverage, short term and long-term disability insurance and participation in a defined benefit pension plan.
