The Opportunity:
Canfor is currently seeking a motivated and talent student to join our team as a Process Engineer Co-op at our pulp operations.

The Role:
In this role, the successful candidate will work on site at our pulpmill location primarily under the direction of a Process Engineer or Process Specialist. Responsibilities of this role will include:
  • Collect, analyze and use operational data to support, develop, and help to implement Continuous Improvement initiatives (safety, environment, cost, quality, production, energy)
  • Monitor Process risks and maintain monitoring systems, including control uptime, critical sensor uptime, efficiencies and performance, quality indicators, cost indicators, risk parameters, etc.
  • Support Process studies and trials with sampling and testing as required, Process data analysis, reporting, etc.
  • Collaborate with Technical Labs for Process testing, and interpret results/provide recommendations. Conduct routine Pulp testing as required.
  • Technical support for Capital Projects and justification
  • Support documentation reviews, such as P&ID validation, loop narrative reviews, etc.

It is our intention to provide the student with an opportunity to become familiar with the Kraft pulp process and to utilize the theoretical knowledge of engineering principles in a work situation.

The student engineer will work independently and as a team member with the opportunity for input from a variety of resources including experienced Professional Engineers, mill operators and Maintenance personnel. The successful applicants will gain practical experience in various aspects of Chemical Engineering.

The Candidate:
  • Minimum two years completed in a Chemical Engineering or Chemistry Program.
  • Strong PC skills required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous Pulpmill experience or other industrial experience an asset.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.

The Incentive
  • Competitive salary -$18-24/hour depending on experience.
  • Benefits package includes core medical coverage.
  • If applicable, Co-op fees will be paid for by Canfor

The salary range for this position is: $54,500.00-$56,000.00
