Manager, Finance

Location: Hybrid – work from home & Granville Office

Reporting to: Chief Financial Officer

Job status:  Permanent Full-time 1.0 FTE (75 hours bi-weekly)

Compensation: $75,794 - $86,503

YOUR ROLE

JOB SUMMARY

The Manager, Finance provides timely, accurate, and relevant financial reports and analyses, plays a key role in leading budgeting and quarterly forecast reviews, assists in leading the annual audit, and prepares statutory reports, monitors cash flow and investments, oversees monthly accounting, and supports process improvement and financial systems maintenance in collaboration with the Manager, Financial Systems. The Manager, Finance manages the Accounting Team (i.e. the Finance Officer and Finance Coordinator), as well as the Donor Services Team and is responsible for the following tasks for both the Society and the Foundation.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Reporting and Analysis

  • Responsible for month-end close and preparing monthly schedules.
  • Assist in analyzing actual vs budget operating results.
  • Discuss financial results and relevant matters with budget holders.
  • Working with the CFO, assist in drafting the quarterly financial report package for the Audit Committee.
  • Prepare other ad hoc reports or analyses as required.

Budgeting and Quarterly Forecast Reviews

  • Work with CFO to develop budget and forecasting process.
  • Support budget holders in developing annual budget.
  • Conduct quarterly review of quarterly forecasts with budget holders; review material adjustments with CFO.
  • Propose enhancements to the budgeting and forecast review process as necessary.

Annual Audit Support and Statutory Reporting

  •  Together with the CFO, be the primary contact to external auditors.
  • Prepare all required schedules and information for the annual external financial audit.
  • Prepare statutory returns including T3010, GST, PST, and BC Gaming reports for the Hospice and Foundation.

Cash Flow and Investment Monitoring

  • Continuously review and maintain cash flow requirement levels.
  • Advise Chief Financial Officer of any emerging issues.

Oversight of the Accounting Team

  • Ensure completion of all monthly tasks designated to the Accounting Team per the monthly checklist.
  • Provide support to the Accounting Team as needed.
  • Work with the Accounting Team to improve processes and achieve efficiencies where possible.

Oversight of the Donor Services Team

  • Oversee timely donation processing, tax receipting and donor acknowledgements
  • Work with team to develop annual work plan.
  • Provide support to the Donor Services Team as needed.
  • Ensures CRA regulations and internal policies are applied and update Development team of any changes.
  • Work with Donor Services team to improve processes and achieve efficiencies where possible.

 

Process Improvement and Financial Systems Support

  • Recommend financial procedures to ensure compliance, strong internal controls and efficiency and regularly review and update Finance policies as necessary.
  • Together with the CFO, work with the Manager, Financial Systems on financial systems selection and upgrades as necessary.

People Management

Provides supervisory support to the Accounting Team and the Donor Services Team including:

  • Annual development reviews;
  • Annual career check ins;
  • Approval of time cards;
  • Approval of absence and requested time off;
  • Regular 1:1 checks in;
  • Recommends and approves appropriate training and development opportunities; and
  • Assumes other related responsibilities, as assigned.  

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Successful completion of CPA designation
  • A minimum of five years recent experience in financial accounting, budget preparation, and cost analysis, preferably in a non-profit environment.
  • Or a comparative combination of relevant education and experience.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

What you bring to the role:

  • Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Canada Revenue Agency regulations for Canadian Registered Charities.
    • Superior analytical and problem solving abilities with a high accuracy and keen attention to detail.
    • Big picture thinker and solution focused approach to meeting tasks at hand and organizational financial requirements.
    • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels.
    • Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and situations.
    • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain appropriate professional and personal boundaries.
    • Proficient in MS Excel.
    • Computer literate and knowledge of NetSuite, Virtuous, UKG-Pro, and UKG-Dimensions would be an asset.

Please note:

  • Evidence of Health Canada approved vaccinations must be provided prior to your first day of work.
  • Flexibility is necessary, as this position may require occasional weekend and evening work and travel within and outside the Lower Mainland.
