Job Summary

The Team
The Responsible Mining and Competitiveness Division (RMCD) within the Ministry of Mining and Critical Minerals is dedicated to fostering a safe, environmentally responsible, and competitive mining sector in British Columbia. RMCD prioritizes advancing Indigenous reconciliation, promoting sustainability in mining practices, and ensuring fair and transparent regulatory processes. The team works collaboratively to support the development of BC's mineral resources while respecting the diverse needs and perspectives of communities, with a strong focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion.

The Role
The Inspector of Mines-Permitting plays a key role in reviewing and making decisions on Mines Act Permit applications for various regional mining activities, including exploration and aggregate mining. This role involves consulting with Indigenous Nations to support reconciliation and collaborating with other agencies to ensure strong, well-informed decisions. As a statutory decision-maker, the Inspector also conducts mine inspections, all while working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where results, organizational commitment, and cooperation are highly valued.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

• Relevant degree in geoscience, engineering (Mining, Civil, Environmental or Materials Science), forestry, natural resource management or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
• Minimum three years of current experience related to mineral exploration and/or mining operations. Experience in mining operations includes working in a professional or technical capacity on functioning mine sites, including aggregate, for a broad range of mining activities including exploration, access construction, mining methods and/or mine reclamation, and/or relevant provincial/federal experience in a natural resource regulatory compliance role.
• Registration (or immediately eligible to be registered) with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia, the Association of BC Forest Professionals, or the BC Institute of Agrologists.
  • **Note: Immediately eligible is defined as being registered as a professional member in an applicable jurisdiction and able to transfer that current membership to a BC professional association within 6 months of employment. It is the responsibility of the applicant to have their qualifications reviewed by the appropriate body to ensure they have the necessary requirements for registration.
• Must possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence or equivalent.

Preference may be given to applicants who have:

• Experience in First Nations' consultation or engagement.
• Experience in a mining regulatory compliance role.
• Experience in mine reclamation activities.

About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity until September 30, 2026. This position may be extended or become permanent.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
