Job Summary

The Team
The Geospatial team specializes in GIS work within a natural resource environment, providing essential mapping and spatial analysis to support regional operations. This established team of four collaborates with various positions across Regional Operations, contributing to data-driven decision-making and sustainable resource management. Joining this team offers the chance to apply GIS skills in a real-world setting while learning from experienced professionals in a supportive and collaborative environment.

The Role
As a GIS Co-op Student, you play an integral role in creating digital maps, spatial products, and descriptive statistics that support various work units within the ministry. You manage and maintain spatial and attribute databases, ensure data accuracy, and manipulate geographic data using advanced GIS tools like ESRI products. This position provides hands-on experience in translating, analyzing, and quality-assuring spatial data while contributing to meaningful projects in a natural resource environment. It's a great opportunity to develop your GIS expertise and learn from an established team.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Secondary School Graduation.
  • Currently enrolled in formal course work in geographic information systems or equivalent.
  • Related experience plus a demonstrated working knowledge of ArcGIS Pro for capturing, converting, creating, editing and maintaining digital information in a GIS environment, and managing and maintaining data.
  • Must have a valid BC Drivers Licence Class 5.

Preference statement:
  • Preference may be given to those with a diploma or degree in a discipline of Natural Resource Management and/or field experience working in operational forestry.

About this Position:
  • This position is part of the BC Public Service's Co-op Employment Program and is a temporary position until 08/29/2025.
  • Co-op students must be enrolled in a recognized co-operative education program at an accredited co-op institution .
  • Students enrolled in an accredited co-op program outside of B.C. are also eligible for the BC Public Service Co-op Employment Program.

  • This position can be based out of any of the location(s) listed above.
  • Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 (two) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
