Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) to join the Tertiary Mental Health Adult Rehabilitation team at Willow Pavilion (Level 2) at Vancouver General Hospital. Apply today to join our team!
As a Clinical Nurse Educator at VCH, you will:
- Coordinate and provide clinical education services to staff by utilizing educational/curriculum theory and knowledge of nursing and clinical practice to support the design, development, implementation and evaluation of clinical education programs.
- Assess individual and group learning needs and participate in the development of individual growth plans.
- Consult, confer and collaborate with program and team members as well as other Educators in the promotion of continuous quality improvement, resolution of clinical education issues and coordination of activities required for progressive educational and clinical practice programs.
- Take corrective action with respect to individual and group learning needs.
ABOUT WILLOW PAVILION (VGH)
Willow Pavilion is a Regional Tertiary Mental Health & Substance Use facility located on the Vancouver General Hospital Campus. It is an advanced practice environment that offers wrap-around services to clients experiencing refractory psychiatric conditions. The interdisciplinary team includes occupational, physical, vocational, and recreation therapists and assistants, pharmacists, dieticians, social workers, nurses, rehabilitation workers, doctors, peer support workers and others.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Three (3) years’ recent, related mental health and substance use experience including one (1) year experience developing, implementing and/or delivering education services, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Valid BC Driver's License and access to personal vehicle for local area travel may be required.
Knowledge & Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client and family centered model of care.
- Broad knowledge of BCCNM Standards for Nursing/Psychiatric Nursing Practice.
- Comprehensive knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools.
- Comprehensive knowledge of other health disciplines and their role in patient/client care.
- Comprehensive knowledge of mental illness and treatment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of substance use and treatment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction oriented care.
- Demonstrated ability to provide culturally sensitive nursing services to diverse and marginalized populations.
- Demonstrated ability to implement patient and family centred care.
- Basic knowledge of program evaluation.
- Demonstrated ability to teach, demonstrate, facilitate and lead.
- Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking in approach to teaching.
- Demonstrated ability to develop educational programs and material.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, physicians, other health care staff and clients and their families, either one-on-one and in-groups.
- Demonstrated ability to function as an effective team member, leader, and facilitator.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and work direction.
- Demonstrated ability to promote a creative learning environment.
- Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
- Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation.

- Physical ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Skill in the use of equipment and in techniques appropriate to designated clinical area.
- Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.
- Basic computer literacy to operate a computerized client care information system.
The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
