Job Summary

The Team
As a Fire Centre Manager (FCM), you'll be an essential part of a dynamic leadership team, working alongside five other FCMs and the Director of Fire Centre Operations. This team is passionate about safety and well-being of staff and is dedicated to driving innovation in wildfire management. With a focus on operational excellence and proactive planning, the team is redefining how we approach wildfire management, moving beyond suppression to create safer, more resilient communities.

The Role
As the FCM, you'll be a key collaborator, working closely with local governments, First Nations communities, and other partners to protect our province's natural resources. You'll lead a regional fire centre team, ensuring the safe and effective deployment of firefighting operations. With the authority to make important decisions, you'll help shape a safer, more resilient future for our communities.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
  • University degree or technical diploma in a field related to forestry, natural resource management, public administration and experience in a field related to forestry, natural resource management, and public administration management; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered; AND
  • Senior management experience in wildfire management or an equivalent natural resource management program
  • Must possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 (or equivalent) Driver's Licence


Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
  • experience dealing with complex emergent stakeholder interests and issues management
  • experience leading and coaching diverse teams
  • experience in strategic business planning, procurement, and financial management


Provisos /Willingness statement(s)
  • To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments, and corporate structures
  • To keep current on emerging issues
  • To take in-house training and certification as required
  • To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required
  • To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan
  • To travel and/or overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required
  • To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned
  • To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
