KPMG's Tax Incentives Services practice (including Scientific Research and Experimental Development, SR&ED) consists of a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, accountants, and tax experts that assist our clients to obtain tax savings through various tax incentive programs like the SR&ED program - one of the country's largest tax incentive programs.

Our team provides specialty advisory services to help multinational and mid-market companies across various industries carry their innovation and research and development vision by benefiting from the SR&ED program and other incentives available through various federal and provincial programs.

KPMG is currently seeking a Specialist to join its GVA Tax Incentives team.

What you will do
Our team of professionals help our clients' manage risk so they can focus on their core business. By intimately understanding each client's business, we convert information into insights to uncover hidden opportunities to improve client efficiency and performance. As a Specialist you will be required to:
  • Engage with senior financial and technical stakeholders of clients to identify costs for R&D projects
  • Work with our technical team to analyze client operations and processes to identify activities and costs eligible for incentives.
  • Perform and document calculations, draft memoranda, and complete other tasks necessary for preparing claim documentation.
  • Prepare tax schedules related to claims. Communicate with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and relevant provincial ministries to address and resolve client matters.
  • Refer to SR&ED court cases, CRA policies, and guidelines to support claim positions.
  • Conduct research on client issues arising from compliance or planning activities.
  • Acquire industry-specific knowledge and develop specialized skills to better serve clients.
  • Expand understanding of industry-specific grant applications and funding programs.
  • Take on additional tasks or assignments as required.
What you bring to the role
  • Expertise in MS Excel and data analysis tools
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, or related fields.
  • Solid understanding of current accounting principles
  • Proven ability to deliver exceptional client service.
  • Self-driven, organized, and proactive approach to tasks.
  • Experience with the Canadian SR&ED program is an asset and any experience with government assistance programs would be an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Focus on achieving team and personal goals.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of corporate tax processes is advantageous.
  • A CPA designation considered as an asset.
  • Strong focus and attention to detail when working with data.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a national team.
KPMG BC Region Pay Range Information
The expected base salary range for this position is $66,000- $99,000 and may be eligible for bonus awards. The determination of an applicant's base salary within this range is based on the individual's location, skills & competencies, and unique qualifications. In addition, KPMG offers a comprehensive and competitive Total Rewards program.
