Job Summary

The Team
At the South Island Fire Zone, you'll join a dynamic and experienced team of diverse individuals dedicated to the common goal of making responder safety a priority. As a part of this team, you'll collaborate with professionals in wildfire prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery from across the province. The Wildfire Technician plays an essential role the planning and implementation of wildfire preparedness, response, and prevention initiatives with clients, partners, and stakeholders. The Role
As a Wildfire Technician, you'll supervise crews, manage an assigned portfolio such as training or prescribed fire, and ensure year-round preparedness and response. Your work plays a crucial role in natural disaster mitigation, primarily fire suppression, directly impacting community safety. This position offers the chance to lead in emergency situations and make a meaningful difference for others.

Qualifications:
  • Degree in a field related to forestry, resource management or equivalent knowledge, plus 1 year recent *related experience; or
  • Technical diploma in a field related to forestry, resource management, or equivalent knowledge, plus 3 years recent *related experience; or
  • Grade 12 plus 5 years *related experience or an equivalent combination of education and training; and


*Related experience is defined as operations or other disciplines related to natural resource management
  • Minimum 2 years of demonstrated supervisory experience
  • Valid class 5 driver licence

Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
  • Incident Commander 4 or higher
  • Fire fighting experience
  • Emergency management experience

Provisos /Willingness statement(s)
  • To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures
  • To keep current on emerging issues
  • To take in-house training and certification as required
  • To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required
  • To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan
  • To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required
  • To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned
  • To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions
  • To obtain and maintain certification and training for position to meet operational requirements
