Summary

The hired candidate would join the Global Technology Legal Compliance (GTLC) team, whose mandate is to ensure SAP Engineering and their developed products comply with the legal requirements of licensing agreements, and international laws and standards.

The Role

To continue to improve upon this mandate, we're looking for a senior technical legal compliance analyst to drive and support risk management projects and operational efforts involving SAP's used freeware, open source, and commercially licensed software, web services, data, content, and AI models to ensure that SAP's development organizations can and properly do comply with the agreed terms of governance.

The analyst will research and consider the technology of assessed software, web services, and AI models and be able to bridge the world of technology and licensing terms. They will ensure that risks and mitigation strategies are well communicated; will stay educated with modern development practices and business models; will help process owners improve the ways compliance is run in the organization; and contribute to projects and initiatives involving areas like automation, integration of compliance information into central SAP systems, and the introduction of new process and compliance controls.

In this position you'll be responsible to:

  • Lead and support initiatives to continuously adapt and improve our compliance processes, detection tooling, and procedures as SAP's technology evolves.
  • Communicate with development teams and leadership to understand their compliance process challenges and gaps, their technical deployment scenarios and the evolving ways they go-to-market, how they incorporate third-party software, services, and AI models within SAP solutions throughout the software development lifecycle, and, to express any resulting steps they need to take to fulfill the necessary compliance requirements for their deliveries and deployments.
  • Analyze and research freeware, open source, and commercial software, web services, data and content, and AI models to gain an understanding of the technologies therein.
  • Read, analyze, and assess the technical licensing risks of governing agreements to apply to these third-party intellectual properties and convey to other legal stakeholder and development groups how best to manage these risks to SAP's development organizations.
  • Prepare detailed risk assessments of known use-cases and prepare legal memos to inform SAP senior legal groups and SAP executives.
  • Triage policy violations as a result of code scans on SAP's products to ensure products are avoiding unacceptable risk scenarios or can otherwise mitigate the risks and fulfill license obligations.
  • Support these compliance efforts for the mergers and acquisitions of companies made by SAP.
  • Mentor and collaborate with peers to share knowledge, learn from and aid others, and participate in an environment of growth within the team.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years of work experience in a role related to technology, auditing, compliance, or law.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Law or equivalent experience and education.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Able to bring together discussions on a problem to a common written and displayed understanding for a group to agree upon.
  • Knowledge of modern software practices, functional concepts, and architectures, and the software development lifecycle.
  • Agile working style, able to react quickly to new information and adapt requirements and priorities as a result.
  • Proven ability to analyze business problems and effectively break them down issues into smaller, approachable ones with tasks to resolve them.
  • Knowledge and working experience with open source licenses and their conditions and obligations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of AI models (ex. LLMs), and the technologies to develop, improve, and deploy them are an asset.
  • Experience with Export Control is an asset.
  • Experience with Mergers and Acquisitions are an asset.
  • Knowledge and working experience with software scan tools like Blackduck, Mend, and CycloneDX are an asset.
  • Certifications in CISA, CRISC or similar are an asset.

The targeted combined range for this position is 139000 - 236200(CAD) CAD. The actual amount to be offered to the successful candidate will be within that range, dependent upon the key aspects of each case which may include education, skills, experience, scope of the role, location, etc. as determined through the selection process. Any SAP variable incentive includes a targeted dollar amount, and any actual payout amount is dependent on company and personal performance.
